The first time I heard Hamilton was in 2015. I was in college, and one of my roommates shared it with me. I was hooked quickly, listening to it non-stop for a few months, then still listening to it really frequently throughout the next several years.
When Hamilton was going on tour, A friend of mine got tickets, and I drove to Memphis on a Saturday, and we saw it. Lesson learned: if you want to make things happen, talk about it publicly on the internet, and people who you know might help.
It was amazing, truly.
The most surprising thing about seeing Hamilton was the choreography – after four years of listening to the soundtrack, I had never given much thought to what the choreography would be, but on stage, it was astonishing. There are so many songs where I never would have thought that there were so many actors on the stage. It turns out there are a ton of actors on stage in “The Renyolds Pamphlet” and the only way I can think to describe “The World Was Wide Enough” is sculptural. I’ve seen plenty of musicals, but I’ve never paid as much attention to the choreography as in Hamilton.
