Big news from the UICA today – they’re merging with Kendall. My mind is blown, and I’ll be interested to see what they do together. The UICA is a great place, but with this merger, I wonder if they expanded in a way that wasn’t the best for them – prior to their new building, they seem to have been more community oriented, and less like a museum. It’s disappointing to go into the UICA and see how empty it usually is. Hopefully, the combination will make magic happen.
Also, go to Open Projector Night at the UICA. It seems like there’s always a couple pieces that are meaningless – really, someone just found a bunch of random pieces of video, strung them together, played them backward, and called it art, but there’s also some really great work that you don’t have the chance to see anywhere else. This piece is inspiring me today.
Inspiring me to make giant lettering pieces out of pennies, obviously.
